This month we have great pleasure in bringing you the inspirational story of
Best Friends Society; how a small and remarkable group of friends created the
world’s largest and most loved animal sanctuary in the USA. Through their No
More Homeless Pets outreach program Best Friends have assisted to reduce the
amount of unwanted companion animals killed in the US by 10 million in the past
20 years.

The story of Best Friends will inspire and encourage all who believe that we
can create a better world for us all through kindness to animals.

*Companion Animals—a cherished part of Australian life*
Australians cherish their companion animals. More than half of all Australian
households are home to a cat, a dog, or both. Yet, a preventable pet
overpopulation crisis is to blame for the tragic deaths of over 200,000 healthy
animals in Australia every year.

*Why are more and more people becoming vegetarian?*
Awareness of cruel animal production practices is the driving force for
people—from teenagers to grandmothers—who are changing to a vegetarian diet.
However, as you have read in previous Animals Australia e-updates, there are
also compelling reasons—for those who care about the environment, global
warming and water use
. to reconsider whether they should eat meat.

In the final installment of our 3-part series we turn the spotlight on the
CSIRO Total Well-being Diet (and who funded it!), what this book fails to tell

The hot, hip and gorgeous Darren Cordeux, frontman for Aussie rock band
Kisschasy has become Animals Australia's youth ambassador and SaveBabe.com's
latest celebrity supporter! Kisschasy's first album went gold and the band have
been nominated for 3 Aria awards. Their new album Hymns for the Nonbeliever is
being released on July 21st and Kisschasy will be appearing on Sunrise on July
23rd. Darren has made the Pro Pig Pledge and is a passionate supporter of
Animals Australia's work.
