Subject: Verdict in the Al Kuwait case to be given on 8th February 2008
Dear all,
You will not be surprised that we had started to think about how to 'mark'
the 12 month anniversary of the Al Kuwait trial in Perth last year without a
verdict!
However, we have just been advised that Magistrate Crawford will provide her
judgment on the case on Friday 8th February, at 2.15pm at the Perth
Magistrates court.
It has been a long time coming - over 4 years in fact since we first
contemplated such a challenge under the relatively new WA Animal Welfare Act
which says it is an offence to transport an animal in a way that causes or
is likely to cause it unnecessary harm. The information and complaint
lodged by us was subsequently investigated, and charges laid, and the WA
State Solicitors office prosecuted Emanuel Exports and its two directors in
the Perth Magistrates Court in a trial that went from 5/2/07- 14/2/07.
Originally the Magistrate reserved her verdict until April last year, but
then advised she would not be able to meet that date, and so we have waited
until now.
If you are not totally familiar with the path to this point, a summary is on
our website - see http://www.liveexport-indefensible.com/facts/case.php
We will travel to Perth for the verdict and let you know as soon as we do!
Regards to all,
Glenys
